After months of planning, designing, and anticipation, the MFC was thrilled to participate last week in two events with our partner, the Gary Comer Youth Center in the Ingleside/Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood of south side Chicago.

Together with GCYC, we’re developing an initiative to design and pilot a sustainable agriculture food system in the local community. We hope to promote a new food culture around local, fresh produce, by encouraging greater youth and neighborhood participation in a variety of “seed to table” educational programs. Our partnership is about building healthier communities, and encouraging the youth as agents of community change.

Our participation in the Green Teens’ Harvest Table, where the GCYC youth showcase what they’ve accomplished in their programs (culinary, environmental science, design-build, community outreach, and growers), as well as our presence at the local community’s Back to School Jam event, are just a preview of what we and GCYC have in store. Stay tuned!
